Reduce the High Cost of Productivity Loss due to Unresolved Grief with an evidence-based Employee Wellness training

Employees gripped by grief admit they have lost the ability to focus and concentrate, which often leads to injuries, accidents, and mental health challenges that increase absenteeism and possibly even fatalities.

Long-term lack of productivity leads to even further losses (job loss, loss of upward mobility) for the employee and the company (loss of profit, loss of talent).

According to the Grief Recovery Institute’s research and report, the “Hidden” Annual Costs of Grief in America’s Workplace increased by 31% to $98.6 billion from 2003 to 2017. The Institute’s report highlights that

  • 90% of survey respondents identified their cause for stress was due to a major loss (death, divorce, illness, and other – and there are at least 40 of them)
  • 70% of survey respondents reported an increase or new use of alcohol or other drugs, prescription or recreational
  • 80% of survey respondents indicated they had an injury, accident, or illness after a major loss
  • In an overwhelming majority of cases, the underlying causal issue of depression and anxiety is unresolved grief.

Nowadays grief exists in just about every room where people are gathered, both at work and at home. Pretending it’s not there, that it’s not impacting people mentally and physically during work hours, may be a factor, when turned around, that impacts your business for the better.

The report also recognizes that in this ever-changing business world, many corporations have reduced or eliminated the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) departments and replaced them with outsourcing services. Even when the EAP departments – in-house or outsourced – are fully intact, grief and recovery from loss do not always fit conveniently within the referral services which most often relate to drug and alcohol issues and general psychological guidance.

The Grief Recovery Method® training serves as an employee health and wellness program that goes beyond a focus of physical exercise or substance use and harm reduction, all of which may be positively impacted when employees learn how to deal with the mental toll of grief and loss and bereavement.

The Grief Recovery Method® 8-12-week, 2-hours/week online live training for individuals and groups serves as an integral part of an employee health and wellness program / employee assistance program.

That Time will heal all wounds is a myth, and it’s hurting your business – this Employee Mental Health program can help.

Ever met a person who lost a loved one years ago and never really got “back to normal”? Not getting back to normal is normal with unresolved grief.

Time does not heal the pain and suffering that comes from loss and grief, and this myth adds to the cost of productivity loss at work.

Time does not heal, Action does.

Recovery from grief or loss is acheived by a series of small and correct choices made by the griever.

Offering this non-clinical online peer support training, The Grief Recovery Method®, as part of an employee mental health program enables staff to learn a method that addresses the often [un]/predictable and [in]/evitable losses, grief, and bereavement a person endures throughout a lifetime.
